From here on out I'll let the Referrers portion of the Webalizer log analysis do the talking in regards to where this site has been mentioned. (As of June 28th: websites based in Brazil, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, South Africa, Belgium, and the Netherlands, in addition to USAToday and the Spanish language version of Wired.com).

Wired.com has published a story by Leander Kahney about this site. I was wondering why things seemed a little slower this morning...

Just finished messing with the right sidebar - the part that says "Here:" and "Nearby:" -- it used to list only items that were in the same enclosure, which meant that if you were in a cabinet drawer the list would contain only those items in the same drawer. Now the list has the items in the same drawer, but also links to other "nearby" enclosures, i.e. the other drawers in the cabinet. I'm not really sure if it's conceptually clear enough (things that are HERE are different from things that are NEARBY), or if it'll start to get cluttered, but I do like clicking around a bit more... feels like fewer dead ends.
We'll see if anyone notices.
In a downward spiral of self-involvement I did a google search for mc.clintock.com and discovered that the site was #34 on Daypop top 40 for the 20th of June. Daypop Top 40 is a list of links that are currently popular with webloggers from around the world. The "blogs" that linked to this site included mollyblog, tony.dowler.com, weberific.org, speckledpaint.org, and prolific.org. I also happen to know that Niem Tran, An Ephemeral Conversation, ketheory{ };, and Mr. Dan Kelly mentioned this site, in addition to memepool and metafilter. A veritable orgy of references.

Hey! I got mentioned as the Yahoo! What's New site of the day for June 21st! Man, that's going to give the DSL a nice workout. Funny how this sort of snowballed. (I saved a 170k screenshot for posterity - also a 55k screenshot of the "Most Popular" page - #4).
Geez, just about had a heart attack - I updated Apache this afternoon, and later went to check something out on the site only to discover that the homepage was gone, replaced with the default installation! Duh. The installer noticed I didn't have an index.html page and put one in place, and that overrode my index.php homepage. ha.
I was curious about the search terms folks might be using to search my site, so I dug up a script from the ht:/Dig contributors area. Here are the results. There's also a way to see the search terms that led visitors to this site - the terms are reported in the httpd logs.

On June 19th mc.clintock.com was discussed on Metafilter - quite an honor, and a thrill! My httpd logs jumped from the daily average of 400k to well over 40MB in the course of a few hours. Very satisfying. All I can say is the Metafilter folks are thorough. Special thanks to the 13's for encouragement and the metafilter link.
Whups. Just noticed a mention on memepool! I guess we'll see how the server holds up, eh? Thank you fatherdan...
