Graven Image

It's been in my house for almost two weeks and it's still astonishing, though I can't decide where to display this Vital Animus.

Plus it makes me wonder where one would find a Vital Anima. hmph.

Mirror Site

mirror.sytes.org does a cool thing very simply, and very well - it makes a horizontally mirrored version of whatever site you tell it to.

Kind of like the Arabic Translation site (PDF, 220k for those of you that don't have Arabic installed - most Mac OS X users should be fine) I ran into awhile ago at http://tarjim.ajeeb.com/ajeeb/ which is pretty amazing to me. It's just cool to see stuff in foreign script.

Speaking of mirrors, have you checked to see if the Wayback Machine has your 1995 dancing hamster site archived?

Icon Updates

BeOS Icon set #8 has been released, with 24 new and classic icons for Mac OS X! There's also a new set compiled for use with the Iconfactory's CandyBar application for toolbar icon swapping. Get them both from the desk in my study.

SVG

Scalable Vector Graphics are very cool. I drew the house (really, more like the model) in Adobe Illustrator, exported to SVG format, and added some tags and stuff to make this cool "interactive" image -- click on each layer to make it levitate! There's a more complex animation in this About section, called "house animation.svg" which levitates each individual wall section when you click on it (gets sort of chaotic).

One of the things I like about SVG is it's open, so anyone can look at the source of the illustration/animation, read it (it's human readable XML), learn from it, reuse it -- just like HTML! Very cool.

You'll need Adobe's SVG plug-in, most likely.

Withdrawl

I know I said I was finished, but I took a few more pictures of the drawers of the green parts box on my hobby table.

And I'm finishing up some additional BeOS Style Icons (set #8), and compiling a CandyBar set.

I don't suppose the icons or other projects will have an end, but this website will.

Enough Already!

I think I've had enough -- I've photographed nearly everything in this house (except for the cardboard boxes, never did get around to that) and I've done as much tinkering with the structure as anyone could stand. Now it's time to move on to other things, so I'll leave this as it is.

For now, anyhow.

Minimal

I've spent the last week doing some more work on private areas of the website, as well as some minor work on Vexed graphics and BeOS Icons. But there was still time to add a couple of Playstation games to my bookshelf, and to check out many websites using Apple's new Safari browser (it's zippy, but I'm going to stick with Chimera for now).

Happy New Year!

Minor site updates have been performed, and a couple pictures have been added (still haven't figured out how to work a "last updated page" system).

I've got new speakers hooked up to the server, and I'm getting closer to having a system whereby visitors can add songs to my playlist -- I probably won't let folks turn on music and select the songs, but I wouldn't mind letting everyone pick the music I listen to when I turn it on.

See what I'm getting at? Anyway, it'll be a good learning experience, I'll get to figure out how to append text to the end of a file using PHP. And I'll learn a bit more about soundcards and CLI mp3 players under linux.

Also, I'm considering upgrading to RedHat 8.0 -- any objections?
