Laundry Area

This feels like an amazing luxury, after 15 years of (at best) shared laundry in the building or (at worst) a laundromat down the block. When my family was living in Poland for a year my Mom did tons of washing in the bathtub (I was only 10, so I don't think I helped much). In China I remember my bluejeans drip-drying in my room. And now, in about an hour, I can have any piece of clothing I own cleaned and dry. Amazing - it's something even a child could appreciate.

My paternal grandfather Jim (aka "Papa Jim") used Clorox bleach for just about everything, it seemed. You could clean anything in it, properly diluted, put it on a bee or wasp sting... come to think of it, those were the only things I saw him use it for, but then I was only 8 or 9 years old, and I'd never thought it would be used for anything besides making your white fabrics whiter.
