It's built into the wall, but it must have originally folded up and down. The covering is battleship linoleum, which goes really well with the cedar wall-covering.

With a little dusting of all-purpose flower this counter top is great for making pizza dough. It's a little low, but that just lets you put your back into it -- and its sturdy enough that you won't end up on the floor. Just don't burn the pizza.
Updated: No longer brown, or built-in; we've got an IKEA kitchen table with a butcher block top that fits this space perfectly. With the legs and shelves painted white it suits the room. Still has the same sort of stuff on top, though.
