This cabinet and drawer sits between the sink and the stove - it's got a chopping block for a top, one drawer, and one cabinet. Probably because it's the smallest flat surface in the kitchen this is where the majority of the cooking takes place. It's also possible that the majority of cooking takes place here because it's where the coffee pot is, and that's mostly what I "cook."
This might actually count as the "center" of the house.

I once had a roommate named Barry Phipps (he played bass in the Coctails) who had worked as a Barrista at Starbucks. For the longest time I thought he was pulling my leg about the specific temperature for the water used in coffee preparation, and the exact number of minutes to steep the coffee, and how you weren't supposed to stir the grounds in the water with a metal spoon (well, that may be bullshit) - but I've recently seen the exact same advice given on a couple of websites. Either he's been able to snow many more people than I thought possible or he was telling the truth all along, and I'm just a suspicious bastard.
