Built between 1910 and 1914 by Bing, and called the Pygmaphone, this children's phonograph measures only 5x5x4 inches and can be dismantled and packed into it's metal case. The motor is key-wound clockwork, and the key fits through a hole in the platen. On the turntable is a "Little Wonder" 78rpm record, which still sounds pretty good.
Got this on a jaunt with Chris Ware and George "For Obvious Reasons" Hanson to the Woodstock Phonograph Show in Woodstock, Illinois. It was an excruciatingly long and drawn out affair, due to the fact that Chris and George love old records in a way that I do not. I was there to find an affordable Pygmaphone (I'd seen them at toy shows), and they were there to look at every single record. Eight hours later I'd walked through the Olde West Museum enough times to have the saddle collection memorized.
